Solvent 400 (special)

Solvent or solvent 400 is a liquid petroleum extract, flammable, colorless and with a mild odor similar to tar. This solvent is made from a combination of chemicals, also known as petroleum hydrocarbons. Among the wide applications of this special solvent 400 are as a thinner in varnish, paint, glue production, etc. This compound is very chemically stable and resistant to corrosion. Arman Chemi, the largest supplier of various essential oils and chemicals, including Solvent 400, intends to provide you with information about this solvent.

Solvent 400 Features

  • Transparent and colorless
  • Flammable
  • High evaporation rate
  • Low boiling point
  • High solubility of paints and coating materials
  • Used in diluting oil paints and solvent-based paints

Storage conditions

♦ White spirit solvents are flammable and their flash point is between 36 and 43 degrees Celsius.
♦ The vapors of this compound can form an explosive mixture with air. Therefore, strictly avoid storing them next to oxidizing materials.
♦ The special solvent should be stored in closed containers in a dry and cool environment, with proper ventilation and away from direct sunlight, heat or sources of ignition.

Solvent 400 (Special Solvent)

Special Solvent is the main source of petroleum hydrocarbon solvents (naphthenic, aliphatic and aromatic). These hydrocarbon solvents with different boiling points in different cuts are obtained from petroleum distillation. The boiling point of some aliphatic hydrocarbons is less than 56-180 degrees Celsius. Aromatic hydrocarbons and halogenated hydrocarbons are extracted from petroleum.

Special Solvent is produced as a fractional distillation of naphtha or kerosene components of crude oil. Distillation of kerosene occurs at different boiling points due to different components. For more information about Refining Solvent.

A solvent is a chemical substance that dissolves the solute in itself. Chemical solvents are used to dissolve other substances without causing their chemical change. Solvents are classified into two categories: polar solvents and nonpolar solvents.
In polar solvents, the particles that make up the solvent are polar and attract each other by electrostatic attraction. Water is a polar solvent and is the most common type of solvent.

Special solvent or solvent 400 consists of linear hydrocarbon compounds and aromatic compounds, which have their own characteristics and properties based on the amount of aromatic compounds and hydrocarbons.
In general, these compounds can be divided into two categories: high and low aromatics. Its characteristics and properties are:
• Solubility: Very slightly soluble in water.
• Odor threshold: 0.5 to 5 mg/m3
• Odor: Petroleum extract with a mild odor
• Physical state and appearance: A flammable, clear, colorless liquid and a mixture of hydrocarbon chemicals.
• Corrosion: It is chemically stable and does not cause corrosion.

Uses of Solvent 400

Solvent 400 is also used to remove grease and oil stains from various surfaces. It is also used in the production of adhesives, detergents and other industrial products.

Solvent 400 is a flammable substance and should be used in well-ventilated areas. It can also be harmful to health and should be avoided by inhalation and contact with skin and eyes. It is also used in painting wooden surfaces, painting metal surfaces, thinning oil-based paints and solvent-based paints, cleaning and maintaining tools.

Safety tips to avoid the dangers of using Solvent 400

  • Avoid using this substance in enclosed spaces.
  • Avoid inhaling the vapors of this substance.
  • In case of contact with skin or eyes, immediately rinse the area with plenty of water.
  • Keep this substance out of the reach of children and animals.
  • Solvent 400 is mainly classified as a skin irritant and this solvent is toxic by inhalation of vapors, skin contact and ingestion. Therefore, avoid exposure to large amounts of it because it can lead to central nervous system depression, resulting in incoordination and slow reactions. Exposure to very high concentrations in enclosed spaces can lead to general narcotic effects such as drowsiness, dizziness and nausea, which ultimately lead to anesthesia. Oral consumption is highly dangerous. Prolonged and repeated skin contact can lead to severe irritant dermatitis, also known as contact dermatitis. Due to the volatility and low bioavailability of the ingredients, although this material is moderately toxic to aquatic organisms, it poses significant risks to the environment, so do not simply dispose of this material in sinks and drains, as it is biodegradable.
