Applications of methyl acetate:
Methyl acetate has a very wide range of applications in various industries. One of its most important and obvious applications is its use as a raw material in the production of acetic anhydride, which is an important material in many industries.

Production of methyl acetate:
There are two methods of producing methyl acetate:
The first method is by using the carbonylation of methanol to produce acetic acid, and methyl acetate is produced as a by-product.

In the second method, which is more common, methyl acetate is produced by esterification (an alcohol and an acid are converted into an ester by a carboxylic acid) of acetic acid with methanol in the presence of a strong acid as a catalyst (usually sulfuric acid) and the application of heat.
CH₃OH + CH₃COOH → CH₃COOCH₃ + H₃O
It should be noted that in this method, sulfuric acid is used as a catalyst for the production of methyl acetate.
